Strolling along La Rambla, enjoying a fresh paella, being immersed in the modernist architecture or enjoying Barcelona from another perspective during a boat tour.
This city has for everyone something nice to offer and there are many reasons why you should visit this beautiful city. Here are our top 5 reasons why you should visit this city:
-
The ambiance
The central point of Barcelona, and immediately the most atmospheric, is the busy street called “La Rambla”. The best-known street, starting at Plaça Catalunya and ending at the sea, is a gathering place for souvenir stands, street musicians, mimes and living statues.
Highly recommended is La Boqueria, a gigantic covered market place where you can buy all kinds of fresh/local products and refreshing smoothies. Do not forget to go into a side street to discover some of the cozy squares, such as the Plaça Reial.
The ideal place to enjoy a glass of Spanish (Catalan) wine. If you want to get to know the city a little better, I would really recommend to do a free walking tour during your stay. To end your day magically you can go and see Font Mágica.
-
Irresistible tapas
Those who think of Spain think almost immediately of tapas. This city is no exception.
You should really visit this amazing city if you’re a foodie; everywhere you go you can find cozy tapas bars. Tapas tours are even organized for real lovers.
Don’t you feel like eating tapas, but do you want to enjoy traditional Spanish cuisine? Then there is always paella.
The local population only eats late at night, so there is a chance that you will be surprised if you walk into a restaurant at six o’clock in the evening.
Personally, I can recommend the restaurant named “Los Caracoles”. Situated in Barrio Gòtico this charismatic and historical restaurant is just what you need for a perfect night in Barcelona.
When you enter the restaurant, you will have to walk through the bar and the kitchen, before you can take your seat. It’s the perfect place to have excellent local food and if you are lucky there will be live music as well!
-
The architecture
Someone who had a great influence on the typical architecture of Barcelona was Antoni Gaudí. His masterpiece, (the unfinished) Sagrada Familia, is one of the best examples of his modernist style. Other of his characterizing structures are the Casa Batlló and Parc Güell.
Are the colorful and busy buildings nothing for you? Then you might like the Gothic Quarter better.
Get lost in the small streets and enjoy the typical medieval buildings. Do not forget to visit the Cathedral. All architecture-fans should have enough reasons to visit Barcelona.
-
Beach and sea
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can always go to the beach. Barcelona has several beaches. The closer you stay to the center, the busier it is. A perfect way to explore the city from another perspective is doing a boat tour.
Boat tours can be done all year round, so if you are looking for a nice tour please let us know! What do you think of this sunset sailing tour for example? Enjoy the sun in the afternoon and experience an amazing sunset together with your friends and/or family.
-
Nature visit
When you are around, be sure to visit nature in and around the city. The hills of Montjuïc do not only offer a beautiful view of the city, but it is also a green oasis.
Especially the botanical gardens are a must if you love nature! More central there are beautiful nature parks to walk around, such as the Parc de la Ciutadella (one of my favorites) with its immense waterfall and romantic garden.
You can rent a rowing boat to float over the big lake and there are playgrounds for the little ones.
