Are you ready to go swimming with dolphins in Madeira?

Swimming with dolphins is an unforgettable experience that Madeira has to offer for the whole family. This unique experience is more than just watching the wild dolphins very closely. On this excursion, you will swim with wild dolphins, learn about the species of dolphins, and about the island of Madeira. The tour takes about 2 hours, in total, and the boat takes up to 12 people. The tour starts and end in the Marina of Funchal.

This unique experience is done during the whale and dolphin watching trip. You’ll come on board on one of our two Rigid Inflatable Passenger Boats (RIB). We’ll take you out to observe the dolphins and whales that enjoy the waters around Madeira Island!

Rota dos Cetáceos is a true specialist in dolphin and whale observations and takes this very seriously.
One of the Marine Biologists will give you a briefing about what to expect regarding the trip and the swimming with dolphins in Madeira. We will also brief you about the species of cetaceans, whales and turtles that are observed most frequently around Madeira.

It is also important to learn what to do and not do to have a great ride and to swim with these beautiful creatures. The biologist will also go on board with you and keep you updated about what’s going on. As we find some species you will be informed about the species and their behaviour. Spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, and many more species. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask us. The local crew loves to tell you about their favourite animals.

To help us find the dolphins in the open waters, which are totally wild and not fed, there are observers on land. These observers, from the mountains, give us directions to easily find the animals. Once we get the GPS coordinates, we’ll speed up and head to the whales and dolphins to watch them closely. While near to the mammals, we respect a certain distance to not disturb them.

Normally when we see a small group of dolphins in front of the boat. We’ll give you some time to observe the common dolphins, jump into the crystal clear waters, and go swimming with them. You’ll always be close to the boat, holding a rope. With the snorkel mask provided, you’ll be able to observe the dolphins’ behavior underwater. If there’s time, we may head to a different pod of cetaceans, if not, we’ll go back to the harbor, along the coast.

We highly recommend this tour to anyone who dreams of a unique experience. This is one of our favourite tours in Madeira 😉
