By Bo, founder of SeaBookings, who finally went to try out our sunset boat trip in Lisbon on a typical boat.
Oh wow, this sunset boat trip in Lisbon made me fall so in love with this city! I’m a Lisbon lover, it’s true. I fall in love with this city day after day. Do you want to feel this too? Then you should definitely, try our sunset boat trip in Lisbon on a typical boat.
The sunset boat trip in Lisbon departs from the city center, Ribeira das Naus. This is, in my point of view a big advantage compared to departing from Belém, which can be quite a hassle to reach from the city center. After getting our ticket at the boat terminal of Cais do Sodré, we walked to the boarding pontoon at Ribeira das Naus. Soon, the beautiful “Seja Feliz”, which means “Be Happy” arrived. This boat is a typical boat from the Tagus estuary from 1947. It was used to transport wine and meat from the South bench of Lisbon to the Northern one. The boat was converted to a touristic vessel, with an engine, comfortable seats, inflatable rescue boats, life jackets and even a toilet on board. It can take up to 47 people!

This sunset boat trip in Lisbon takes about 2 hours. In my point of view, this is just enough. Two hours is enough to cruise along Terreiro do Paço to Santa Apolónia and then turn and cruise all the way to the Tower of Belém. Along the way, the sunset boat trip in Lisbon passed by several landmarks of the city. You can see the different neighbourhoods, like Baixa, Alfama, Cais do Sodré, Santos and Belém. You can also observe some of the most emblematic monuments of town, like the Tower of Belém, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and the Monument of the Discoveries. In addition, some architectural highlights, like the 25th of April Bridge, MAAT Museum and the Champalimaud Foundation can be observed from the Tagus River.
One thing we particularly liked on this tour was the staff. Si, Joana and Luís, were constantly interacting with the people on board. Si knows a lot about the history of the city of Lisbon and proudly shares some interesting facts along this sunset boat trip. In the meantime, Joana and Luís were manoeuvring the boat and serving us some water and a delicious cold white wine.
We highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Lisbon. This sunset boat trip is the perfect way to end the day. Especially on a hot day, where the Tagus River has a delicious refreshing effect! On board of our tour were families with kids, groups of friends and couples. We’re sure everybody loved it. You could see it by the beautiful smiles while we disembarked. Many thanks, Rui and his team for this great experience. We’ll be back soon!
